Clinical Trials

The Brain Research Center has a wide range of clinical trials focusing on aging processes, along with diseases of the brain such as epilepsy and brain tumors. These trials are an opportunity for pet owners and clinicians to work together to advance the field of veterinary medicine.

The specifics of each trial can vary but most clinical trials will involve several visits to the veterinary teaching hospital, along with some diagnostics. Some trials are observational, such as our BioRAD study, which is helping us understand more about how the brain ages, while others are interventional, meaning a new medication or treatment is given to the pet to determine its efficacy on a particular disease process.

Biomarker Research in Aging Dogs (BioRAD): A Longitudinal Study in Dogs of All Ages Biorepository and Advanced Research in Brain Cancer (BARC) Investigating the effect of cannabidiol, trazodone, and rapamycin on naturally occurring canine cognitive dysfunction syndrome as a surrogate for Alzheimer’s disease (TRAC) Canine Glioma Brain Tumor Immunotherapy (CAR-T cell) and Chemotherapy (verdinexor) Trial Nonsurgical Chemotherapy (Verdinexor) Treatment for Canine Brain Tumors Pharmacologic Intervention using a Stress Protein Inhibitor (SPI), CBT300, to Treat Gliomas in Companion Dogs The use of cannabidiol (CBD) as an alternative to standard anticonvulsant therapy in dogs with idiopathic epilepsy A Lasting Legacy: samples collected from a pet after death to study diseases of aging.
