Sones Lab

Equine Reproduction Laboratory

My laboratory at Colorado State University focuses on the basic mechanisms of pregnancy. The interaction of the microbiome, inflammation, and pre-existing conditions, such as obesity, impact fertility. Our studies seek to improve reproductive success of both the mare and stallion.

research project

A large animal model of preexisting obesity as a contributing factor to impaired placental development

This project seeks to determine the influence of maternal leptin on early placental development in normal and obese mares.

research project

Microbiome of Small Ruminants in a Breeding Program

This project seeks to describe the association of the oronasal, fecal, and vaginal microbiome on fertility in ewes and does bred by artifical insemination

research project

Effects of maternal obesity on oocyte aging in female offspring of the BPH/5 preeclamptic-like mouse

This project seeks to characterize the transgeneration impact of obesity on oocyte development in a murine model.
