Samantha Evans, D.V.M., Ph.D., D.A.C.V.P.

Dr. Evans is a Colorado native (from Broomfield) who attended CSU for her bachelors degrees in chemistry and mathematics. She then pursued a combined DVM/PhD program at the University of California at Davis, where her dissertation work surrounded virology and comparative pathology. Specifically, she studied epigenetic mechanisms of feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) latency, using a one-health approach to the problem of HIV persistence in infected humans.

After graduating, Dr. Evans completed a rotating medicine and surgery internship at Michigan State University, and then returned to CSU for her residency in veterinary clinical pathology. There she was connected with Dr. Santangelo and her collaborator Dr. Gregg Dean working on feline infectious peritonitis immunology and diagnostics. Dr. Evans has continued this work, among other collaborations with the Santangelo lab, in her new role as faculty at Ohio State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine.
